The Labuan International Insurance Association (“The LIIA”) held its 25th Annual General Meeting (“AGM”) in a Hybrid meeting at Tiara Labuan Hotel on 24th June 2022. An event/media firm was engaged to manage the event.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Gerard Roy Suresh Sharma, LIIA Chairman for 2020 to 2022, and he began with his welcoming speech followed by a confirmation of quorum which was confirmed by the LIIA’s Secretary, Mr. Ahmed Farouk Aripen that participation was 175 members out of the 208 registered members, which brought it to 84% attendance, surpassing the required 50% for a quorum.
The minutes of the meeting of the 24th AGM held on 24th June 2021 was approved as proposed by Ms. Hue Yann Wei from Aon Reinsurance Malaysia Limited and seconded by Mr. Richard Goh Ah Hong from Acurra International Limited followed by the presentation of the Annual Report for 2020/2021 by the Chairman supported by reports from each sub-committees of the LIIA.
The LIIA Audited Financial Statement for the Year Ending 31st December 2021 was presented by the LIIA’s Treasurer, Mr. Erich Nicholas and the AGM has reappointed Mr. Eric Gan of Hub Risk Solutions Ltd, as the Honorary Auditor and Ms. Christabel Chieng of Crowe Malaysia PLT to continue as its External Auditor. The Annual Financial Statement was proposed by Mr. Zainul Che Din from FEIC (Asia) Limited and seconded by Mr. Richard Goh Ah Hong from Acurra International
Limited for adoption.
The proposal to approve the amendment to the constitution was in relation to update the objectives of the association and to increase the total number of the Council Members from 15 to 19 members due to the reason that the workload among the Council members has increased in recent times . The amendments of the LIIA Constitution were approved unanimously by all the delegates that attended the AGM.
The Chairman informed the Meeting that there was a call for nominations for Council Members for the term 2022-2024, with the final determination being made with an election via voting from the LIIA members.
